INTERVIEW.
1. First off, to me you’re one of the freshest DJ’s in the NW rave scene..on a few occasions you’ve brought me out of a bad funk at a party..you’re song selection and energy come through very strong..what drives you as a DJ?
Thank you! What drives me while performing is exactly that, performing. So many DJ’s stand behind a set of turntables and never move or acknowledge that there is anyone else in the room. I get so excited about the music that I’m playing, and that shows through the performance. The main thing that keeps me performing is to see other people get just as excited about the music that I’m playing and get into it with me.
2. How long have you been mixing? Have you always been real immersed in the electronic community?
I started going to shows in 2000, and immediately became obsessed with the music. After dancing myself through about 15 pairs of shoes, I started to play. That was sometime around 2002. Eventually I started to play at house parties in Pullman, WA. After moving from there to Tacoma, I practiced every day in my living room for hours and hours. Around then is when I started getting involved in promoting my first club night and started involving myself in Equalize Entertainment. It wasn’t until I met J Sharp in 2004 that I started to get DJ bookings in Seattle though. Since then, its all been a ton of fun. In the past few years, I have become really involved in stage design, management and lighting, which I currently do for USC Events and Digital Innovators.
3. Who are some DJ’s you’d love to tag-team with?
Myk, Channel Surfer, Cameo, Sonny Chiba, Jaden from PDX, All of those guys bring different aspects to DJing and playing with each of them is a completely unique experience.
4. How would you describe the style of music you play? And what’s the best party you’ve performed at so far?
For years, I was strictly a dark, tear out breakbeat DJ. Becoming bored of that, I have reached out into playing electro, dubstep, fidget, dnb, progressive, polka… you name it. Expanding to more styles gives the opportunity to be able to take listeners to places they didn’t think they’d go with you. As far as the best party, that’s really up in the air. Playing at the Showbox with Steve Aoki and Infected Mushroom was pretty surreal. Playing the Showbox SoDo with Benny Benassi was pretty cool too. Honestly, I’ve had just as much fun playing for 15 people as I have for 1,500. Any show where people get into it is a good one!
5. Got any big plans for 2011?
HAHA. Finish up my degree from UW. That’s really what’s most important to me. Besides that, I’ll probably just keep doing what I’m doing. Being the production manager for USC Events and Digital Innovators keeps me really busy. Hopefully get back to LA, Boise, SLC and Portland to DJ.
6. Favorite song at the moment?
There are so many…… Demigod by Triage and Jaden, whatever was on that CD Plump DJs gave me last week, La Roux – In For The Kill (Skrillex Remix), Miike Snow – Silvia (Felix Da Housecat Remix), Sub Focus – Could This Be Real, Joan Reyes – Shakedown (Bass Kleph Remix), Pretty Lights – So Much In the Dark, and countless other songs.
7. Any last words?
