Today Decibel Festival announced it’s first wave of artists for 2013. In addition, the new site has been launched. This is a special time for Decibel, as it’s celebrating it’s 10 year anniversary. There have been so many memorable moments for all involved with the Festival, as well as countless inspiring performances from artists worldwide.

I want to quickly profile the names that really stood out to me…

I’m always keeping my eyes and ears on Slick Shoota. I’ve done many features on this dude, and now 2 new tracks have my head spinning. The first is “She Like That”, which can be heard above. No clue when this is supposed to be released, but a 2 minute preview is just not enough time to witness his high flyin’ juketastic energy. Also feelin’ his remix of OL & Yoin’s “Sink”. This was played on Scratcha DVA’s Hyperdub Show for Rinse.fm a few months ago. Huuuuuuge sounds Slick!

Check his Soundcloud upcoming shows. I see gigs in Aberdeen (UK), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Oslo (Norway), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Bodo (Norway), and Barcelona (Spain)!

Just finished watching the newest James Bond film, Skyfall. I enjoyed the movie, but the most impressive element to me was the theme song. Those intro credits and music to 007 films are epic; packaging dark espionage in more sleek, artsy way. Paul Epworth and Adele absolutely nailed this song, and it’s no surprise that it won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

I will do a whole other post on Paul Epworth in the future, whose production credits include Bloc Party’s Silent Alarm, and Adele’s 21 among so many others.

Sepalcure was always going to have a special element to it, being the creative brain-child of Travis Stewart (aka Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (aka Braille). The project was born while the two were making music and DJ-ing respectively in New York, and they’ve come a long way since releasing their first EP’s- Love Pressure in 2010 and Fleur in 2011 on Hotflush Recordings. Sepalcure, their 2011 self-titled full length debut, had all the stylistic markings of the two producers. Maximal, dynamic, exciting but occasionally brooding, Sepalcure was an adventure to partake in. They’ve played shows around the world in the last two years, including last year’s Hotflush showcase at Decibel Festival.

Flash brings them back to Seattle at Q Nightclub tonight for one of the most exciting shows this spring (FB event, TIX). WD4D is opening, along with residents Nordic Soul & Recess. Be there or miss out.

Happy to see my friend HxdB featured on BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra. B Traits had him put together a guest mix, and I must say it’s sick! As he says at the beginning, you’ll hear brand new tunes from himself and his friends out of Vancouver and across the globe. If you missed it, I talked with him for Disco Droppings last year, which you can read here.

If you want to see the man behind the beats, Lowpass TV presented a lovely documentary as well as a HxdB Slowcast Mix.
