Released in early June of this year, Jeffree’s Volume 3 features my dude, Slick Shoota. He’s become a big part of my music world since I interviewed him for Disco Droppings, and I love watching him run and make some epic noise. I haven’t taken time to listen through “Humbug” (2009) and “Suck It and See” (2011), the third and fourth albums from Arctic Monkeys, but their first 2 records are a big deal to me. Now I was hooked right off the bat upon hearing “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” (2006), this was before electronic music latched onto me, and I was lovin’ on The Strokes, Bloc Party, Coldplay and Interpol. Once Arctic Monkeys dropped that first record they instantly blew up; the album became the fastest selling debut album in UK chart history. I mention charts sometimes, which can be interesting in their own way, but the album speaks for itself. You can hear the entire record above.
Sophomore albums can be difficult to nail, but similar to Bloc Party, the Arctic Monkeys returned with an evolved sound on “Favourite Worst Nightmare” (2008). Favorites include “Do Me A Favour”, “Old Yellow Bricks”, “Fluorescent Adolescent” and of the massive “Brianstorm”. The full album is posted here as well.

Right now, I feel a bit jaded. I’m searching for something and a lot of what I’m seeing/hearing isn’t connecting with me. Tame Impala continues to be a wonderful exception. They confidently embody a mindset I long to have, and have shown tremendous growth since the release of their first album, “Innerspeaker”. I’m eagerly awaiting the release of my favorite band’s new record entitled, “Lonerism”. Look for it on October 9th in the U.S. via Modular People.

Many of A-Trak’s comments in his well-written article for the Huffington Post mirror my critiques on EDC 2012 in Vegas. A lack of effort from many in the EDM scene has been noticed, and I’m happy it’s being addressed. If you’re going to play all over the world, often on huge festival stages for massive audiences, you better bring it.
His words hold a lot of weight; winner of 5 world DJ championships, former DJ for Kanye West, co-founder of Fool’s Gold Records, half of Duck Sauce and an all-around solid artist for the past 15 years. So all you DJ’s and producers out there..take notes. This is a challenging and thoughtful analysis of the current state of electronic dance music. Take it in, and contribute something memorable. This was my first time listening through a Paul McCartney album. I’m glad it was one that represents experimentation; his third solo studio album embraces synthesizers and other trippy techniques. Originally released in 1980, followed by a re-issue in 2011. Not much needs to be said about Paul, ya’ll know he’s the shit.
I’m taken by “Waterfalls”, it’s a beauty.
