Switching gears completely from my last post, I’ve gotta’ share my memories of seeing Danny Brown live at Showbox Sodo on Sunday, October 21st, 2012. Right now, he’s a part of the Long Live A$ap tour, opening up for A$ap Rocky, the A$ap Mob and Schoolboy Q. If you’re interested in seeing these guys, their next stops are LA (10/26), San Diego (10/28), Las Vegas (10/29), and Phoenix (10/30) (Full tour dates listed here) . Now back to the Seattle show, after standing in line for over an hour I was anxious to see Danny, who started off the night. I was wondering how much weed I’d be smelling during his set and sure enough, once “Witit” started, smoke was billowing up from the crowd.

His performance was striking, raising the crowd’s energy higher and higher and higher. Tracks like “Black Brad Pitt”, “Monopoly”, “Blunt After Blunt” and “Radio Song” were played to near perfection. I was thoroughly impressive by the quality of his voice, coming through as clear as when I bump his XXX album. Danny Brown’s level of musical maturity and experience was evident when he finished and the other acts took to the stage. No one matched the energy Brown exerted, and no one got the crowd as hyped as he did. I thought Schoolboy Q was alright, but thought in my head “this should’ve been Danny’s tour”. My comment was the same after seeing A$ap Rocky. The beats weren’t nearly as good, nor the raps, nor the stage presence. I just saw a very buzzed about artist with his mob playing some tracks. I don’t get it. Anyways, full support to Mr. Danny Brown, very inspiring. And thanks Danny, for retweeting that live picture I took of you. Best of luck with the rest of your shows bruh bruh, but you don’t need any luck..you are enlightened.

I’ve included his brand new video for “Witit”, along with the Noisey video documenting his trip and performance at The Gathering Of The Juggalos 2012. To learn more about Danny Brown, here’s a lengthy interview he did with Complex. As Danny has stated, this interview incorrectly names his new album “Danny Johnson”, it will instead be “ODB”.

This guy brings the party. Such high energy music, I love it! Astronomar has releases on Top Billin and Mad Decent Jeffree’s, which are ace. Grab his recent mp3 ” courtesy of XLR8R – Interview below

DD Whatsup Astronomar? I believe the first time we talked (at the Rye Rye show?) you connected me with Michael Grunden of George Bashington Productions. I helped promote a few of his shows and ended up opening his Boysnoize Records showcase in Seattle. First off, thank you for introducing us! What are you up to?

A No problem, Mike is the guy! Recently I’ve been working on music and trying to eat lots of fruits & veggies, haha! Trying to narrow down my remix work , though I am always experimenting on original tracks and also have a couple collabs in the works. June 25th my colab EP titled “Horse Code” with Swick (Australia) comes out on Enchufada, J-Wow from Buraka Som Sistema’s label.

DD Your first release “Had To Move On” is rad. I realized that I included that track in my tribal set for my label, 7 Deadly Records release party last December. Were you expecting such a positive reaction from this release?

A Thanks man glad you like it! I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I was definitely hoping for the best. Though I was blown away when I saw a video of Crookers playing it at I Love Techno. its extremely inspiring to get support from any of your musical heros.

DD There are so many Astronomar tracks and remixes on your Soundcloud. Going back to your first attempts at producing, did you have a period when you thought you’d never get the hang of it? Were their certain producers and/or tutorials that helped you along the way? I bet their are some new producers reading this..

A Yeah, I think we all have those moments when we feel stuck in some way or another, but as long as you think it out and continue to work, you will progress. I didn’t really watch tutorials to learn techniques, the way I do things is a bit backwards and is mainly a result of trial and error.

DD You’ve had some very innovative producers feature your tracks in their mixes, including Crookers, Diplo, A- Trak and Cedaa. Whose done your favorite mix with a production of yours?

A Yeah man it feels great to get their support! I can’t pick a favorite tho, I really enjoyed all those mixes and not only because they featured my tracks. Those are all guys I respect and would be happy to check out their mixes anyways.

DD From your experience playing shows in Seattle and getting to know the electronic community around here, is there anything you’d like to see more of? Certain styles getting more attention and such?

A From my observation, there are a lot of talented people doing electronic music in Seattle, in a multitude of genres. It actually seems as though the artists outnumber the audience most of the time. So I’d have to say Seattle’s electronic music community would greatly benefit from having more open minded folks on the dancefloors.

DD The “Ya’ll Know EP” you put out on Top Billin is very very cool. I saw a funny ep teaser video for the release, did you have any input on the direction of this video?

A Thanks man, happy you like it! Yeah my good friend Timbre made that video. I sent him a few silly clips to give him an idea of what I was aiming for, and he took it to a whole new level!

DD Brenmar, Four Color Zach yourself and others will be playing at Lo-Fi in Seattle on July 13th, 2012. How would you describe the overall feel of this show, for those thinking about stopping by?

A It will be really dope! We have a very musically diverse & talented line up, and its at a cool spot with cheap drinks. We just had Jubilee last month and that was really dope.

So happy for Branden Clarke AKA IG88, he’s had a string of amazing sets in Seattle. I’ll be going nuts at the show tomorrow, here’s my short interview with the spaced out wonder.

INTERVIEW.

DD: Welcome back IG88, What music stuff’s been going on with you lately?

Well hello you sexy molecular combination of Patrick Swayze & Randy Newman. I have been working on quite a few projects, the latest being my newest release to come out in aboot a month called “Blackberry Light”. The release features vocals by Jenni Potts (http://www.jennipotts.com/) & Mike Harris (www.idiotpilot.com) and bass by my long time collaborator Ricky Wilson, there is also a track featuring an artist named Isum (http://soundcloud.com/isum) we are also currently working on compiling a release. He lives in Switzerland so we email Ableton sessions back and fourth to each other, making it a very inspiring project. I also have been spending a lot of time doing remix’s for people including 7 deadly Records artist Sphyramid. I am going to be giving away a free EP of recent remix’s I have done. Here is a link to it for anyone is interested, should be updated on my site soon.

DD: You’ve had some recent shows with highly established artists such as Matthew Dear and Tiny Vipers, plus Gold Panda coming up this Wednesday. Congratulations first off! What did these shows mean to you, and what are you looking forward to most on the 23rd?

I have been working a lot on my live sets to make sure that I am not boring myself on stage, trying to include a lot of live sequencing, hand percussion and instrumentation. It has been really motivating and surreal to be playing with such amazing artists in Seattle, constantly pressuring me to step up my performance button mashing swag points. I look forward to huffing oven cleaner and eating 6 pounds of marshmallows before going on stage where I will do an experimental set of Anne Frank monologues into a vocoder for an entire hour..

DD: Favorite song of the moment?

Tough question, but my favorite song of the moment would have to be either “No Encores” by The Notwist or the Danger Doom remix of “Somersault” by Zero 7
