DD: I see lots of flyers around Seattle for your Trashed shows, How do you feel the year has been for your Magazine and crew?

The night went from 0 to 60 over night for the most part and this past year has been one big blur. I feel the night, blog, and team becomes tighter and tighter as the days go by. We’ve gone from a monthly, to a kind of roaming party. Doing different one offs and other things around town. Home base has been The Baltic Room but we’ve worked with Hunter Gatherer Lodge, ETG, Temple Billiards, The Islander Yacht, and we’re gonna be working with Neumos on a semi regular basis now. So over all loving what’s happened and where we’re going!

DD: Describe the overall feel of the upcoming Trashed Showcase at Decibel Festival on Saturday, Oct. 1..

We got RAC coming in to headline. We’re pushing the TRASHED sound so the show it self will be what people are used to. I’m not gonna go in to great detail cuz we like the shows to be a surprise to the people that attend but I will say we’re gonna have more then the usual props and the booth is gonna be a little interesting ;]. For more on RAC check out their
Soundcloud. Over 100 remixes for free download.

DD: Outside of your showcase, who are some artists you cannot miss this year at dB?

I definitely wanna see Onset’s showcase this Wednesday with Hive and Total Science. Thursday, If I head out I’m gonna check out Ladytron at Sinthetic. Friday’s HUGE with Moby, Trust Showcase and Breakage. Saturday, TRASHED! and Sunday is DBridge but I’m not gonna be out I’m sure. I’ll need my sleep after that. Dbfest once again bringing it proper. Gonna be a crazy weekend for sure!

This local man has a monumental show set to happen this week at Decibel Festival. What is it you ask? WELL, It’s called Community Bass Session and it will be a memorable time for all who attend. Come support my buddy WD4D and the beat masters listed above..

DD: Whatsup mannn, great job playing at the EMP for Bumbershoot. Working your all live set! You’re playing twice at this year’s Decibel Festival,  how will your sets look?

Thanks a lot! I’m fortunate to have tested out the live set at Bumbershoot. I’m planning on performing the latest, updated, improvised version of that for the Community Bass Session w/ Kraddy, Machinedrum, Ital Tek, & Parters in Grime (Sat, Oct.1st / Crocodile Cafe). The following evening will be an eclectic dj set for the dBridge show at Baltic Room w/ Kid Hops & Quadrant, myself, & Introcut.

DD: For someone who is unsure about attending the festival, or isn’t too aware of electronic music, how would you encourage them to check out Decibel Festival?

I’d definitely recommend dB in the Park, as that’s what really solidified it for me a few years ago. It was just a really good feeling to be there with so many like minded folks in broad daylight, freaking out to some of the most advanced sounds I’d ever heard. Also, that one’s free, so kind of a no brainer there. Other than that, I’d just recommend looking for some names you might recognize & checking out their showcases. Take a friend’s or a blog’s recommendation if you’re not familiar… Feel it out. Definitely check out the workshops during the day too. That stuff is pure GOLD!!! Learning the tricks of the trade from the artists who are performing later that night… PRICELESS!!! Just do as much as you can & you should be free of any regret later. That’s pretty much it!

DD: Last words WD?

Just want to thank everybody who’s put in work over the years to make dB fest what it is. It has become something amazing that draws people from all walks of life, from all over the world, to come & celebrate, learn, & look forward to the future. BEAUTIFUL!

Just wanted to add that my next project (WD4D x Suttikeeree – After School EP2) will be out in mid-late October on Fourthcity Records. The 1st single, “Satisfaction” is available for limited free download at: http://fourthcityrecords.bandcamp.com/track/satisfaction

DD: You have some wonderful label affiliations! How did these relationships come together?

The Minus one is actually Plus 8 Records which is the sister label of Minus. When I first started making techno and house music in the early 90s, Richie Hawtin was one of the first people I sent demos to and communicated with. He always took the time to listen and give me feedback. Plus 8 was also one of the first labels I began to follow and became a huge influence on me. We kept a dialogue going and eventually in 1994 he signed some of my trax to Richie and John Aquaviva’s house sub-label, Definitive. I connected with Richie again around 2009 when we played a gig here together and he asked me for some recent music. I gave him a CDR of some new material and that became my ep on Plus 8. Throughout all of this time I feel like I really owe a lot to this guy from my start to present day.

Well Im not sure how the Ghostly one got on there as Im not an artist of theirs but in the very early days of the label I did a remix for the second Spectral release (Kenneth Graham). I remember when Sam sent me a package of the labels first releases and being so impressed by not only the music but the packaging and design. Its really great to see what hes done with Ghostly and how its evolved into something so much more than just another record label!

DD: Your set at Decibel Festival will take place at one of favorite local venues, The Woods. It is beautiful up there, such a nice view and the DJ is up highhhh. What’s your set going to be like?

Ive never been to The Woods but it sounds great! My set will probably lean towards the housier side in keeping with the vibe of the lineup, but you never know where it could go… Will have to see what people are up for and where things take us. Im thinking some newer bits mixed with some older… Maybe some acid house from Adonis, some techy house from Agaric..

DD: Last words?

Looking forward to playing alongside The Miracles Club and M.Quiet. Portland in the house! Thanks to Db Fest for having me out and hope to see you there! :]

DD: It is very special to have you on here man, A VJ that works with some of the most forward thinking beat producers in LA (Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder, Low End Theory), as well as a blossoming local label (Dropping Gems). What’s the most rewarding aspect about working with these artists?

For a big portion of my life my art was totally personal. I used it medicinally to create hypnotic dream states as a way of soothing my soul. To manifest an experience that allowed me to completely escape reality was very enticing. However, this relationship with my art also made it extremely private and often lonely.

I was exposed to a larger world of music and art thanks to a chance meeting with Dave Wexler, aka Strangeloop. A deep friendship emerged out of synchronicity. Although we came from different backgrounds, our common interest in reality beyond the peripheral and also a fundamental desire to create and share psychedelic media perpetuated a growing connection. In turn, I not only made a dear friend but I was now being exposed to a community of incredibly creative people.

This relationship is what directly influenced me to take the course of life I’m on today. So in essence, the reward would be the state of mind I’m in now and also being part of an interconnect web of highly talented and inspiring individuals.

DD: Next wednesday, as part of Decibel Festival, you’ll be VJ’ing for the Dropping Gems showcase. Looks like this will be a big night for your crew! What do you hope audiences take from this show?

I think the show is going to be a lot of fun. It’s a big night for Dropping Gems and I’m honored to be providing visual elements. We’re putting a lot of hard work into making the show an experience that people will take home with them. I’ve put together a brand new visual set for the night so there’ll be plenty of phantasmagoric stimulation to go around.

In addition to visuals I’ll also be spraying down the crowd with a highly potent psycho-active compound….for continuity sake.

Ya’ll are in luck! This Polish producer has offered Disco Droppings a bassy free remix..

DD: What’s it like over in Poland right now?

Well, it’s depressing because of the whole fall mess, we don’t get a lot of sun here. But the bass music scene is quite cool – we got some really great producers – Space, Ladies and Shoju from Warsaw, Sentel, Zeppy Zep, vanatoski from Cracow, Umba from Torun, Intreau from Wroclaw, MNSL from space and many more… Also some great labels like U Know Me and Concrete Cut, so yeah, fuck fall, let’s play some bass!

DD: Your “Accommodation” track has some big ass bass. What was the inspiration for making this one?

Bass is what makes the club running, so I kinda didn’t have any choice :] But also some old acid stuff – I like to put some hip hop acapella bits in every tune and I think it works just fine. But yeah, bass is always important!

DD: Talk a bit about your Loud & Clear parties..I’ve had Jamie Grind on my blog a while back, fine producer for sure!

And a great DJ as well! Me and my partner in crime (Phat Trakz, but we’re switching the name to something more civilized, if you catch  my drift :] ) were frustrated about the club scene in Wroclaw (especially when BBQ crew finished their great run) and we figured – hey, let’s do something about it. Most of the bookings are polish acts – we really want to promote good producers and DJ’s from Poland. But we’ve done some crazy bookings as well – Ritualz just blew our minds with haunted, insane trance. Next one will be with dMIT.RY (Neo Violence) from Prague – really looking forward for this one! And shouts to Das Lokal, Krakowska, Puzzle and Log:In clubs for having us over! We’re planning to expand, so everybody stay tuned!

DD: What do you have planned for the rest of 2011?

I’m releasing debut EP on French label Soukouch Ethnik, also I got signed by different French label – but I don’t think I’m allowed to reveal which one yet ;] It’s all cool, cause I really like France hehe. I got some remixes scheduled – first is for cult Polish indie rock band Cool Kids Of Death – that’ll be out soon. I may do some collaborations with other Polish producers, but we’ll see about it. Also in November I’m going to Madrid to participate in Red Bull Music Academy – that’s a real game changer for me. Oh, and Phat Trakz are going wild – look out for our productions as Pvre Gold!

DD: Last words?

Ron Swanson is the man! But seriously – nice talking to You, enjoy the remix and stay tuned for some new stuff!
